  • Sushi Kichi Japanese Restaurant – Orlando, FL

Sushi Kichi Japanese Restaurant – Orlando, FL

Sometimes we find a hidden local gem. When I heard about Sushi Kichi, I was so excited to try it so I did a bit of research and invited my friend, Andy, to come with me and check this place out.

The electric blue sign made it easy to locate the restaurant.

    They offer daily specials.

The inside was nice and clean.

If you enjoy interacting with the chef, I recommend sitting at the sushi bar.

I had to rock my Yeezy 500 Unity in black for dinner.

The menu has photos of the food so it helped narrow down my selections.

We ordered the Don Buri which came with miso soup and salad.

There were 3 salad dressings to choose from for the salad.

    Crispy Vegetable Croquet

We both ordered the Kasien Don ($13). It was really tasty and came with fresh sashimi.

Overall, the food and atmosphere was good. I would recommend checking it out.

David Ramirez Chocolates – Plant Street Market

Thank you to Larnna, for telling me about Plant Street Market, located in beautiful downtown Winter Garden.

This indoor market houses many local vendors, from beer brewing to food and dessert.

When I saw that David Ramirez Chocolates had macarons, I had to stop by and take a look.

Their menu also included fresh gelato.

I ordered 5 pieces for $9.90. Some of the macaron flavors I got were blueberry, pistachio, wild strawberry, and coconut.

The packaging was really nice and would make a wonderful gift for someone!

Make sure you stop by and grab some sweet treats from David Ramirez Chocolates the next time you’re at Plant Street Market.

Chillin Out Ice Cream – Kissimmee, Florida

Jody (@jjfoodking) and I are always exploring the Orlando food scene. I’m grateful that Jody is open to trying everything I share with him.

I mentioned this ice cream shop, which has been around for many years in the Kissimmee area, so we decided to try this place out on a hot, sunny afternoon.

The exterior of the ice cream shop is shaped like an ice cream cone, very similar to Twistee Treat but you can tell the difference.

They offered a lot of selections. I went with their FLAVORBURST FLAVOR in TROPICAL ORANGE. Orange is my favorite fruit.

For the complete menu, check out: http://chillin-out.com/ice_cream.htm

This little spot is nice and the price wasn’t bad at all. Enjoy!

  • Maihiro x Kidrobot‏ Full Sail’s Annual Spring Break CE Conference‏‏‎.

Maihiro x Kidrobot‏ Full Sail’s Annual Spring Break CE Conference‏‏‎.

Thank you so much to Kidrobot SF and Full Sail University for this amazing opportunity, allowing us to share our brand and supporting local culture and designer toys.

This is the first time Mai Hiro has been part of a workshop so we were super excited about this event.

This event gave 30 staff and faculty members the opportunity to create their own custom Kidrobot Munny during a hands-on art workshop. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Our attendees had one hour to come up with an idea and a concept using the art supplies we provided, such as markers and acrylic paint. Our goal was to have people explore their creative side while being being hands-on.

I was able to share my 20 inch Ninja Spiki Dunny and production Ninja Spiki Dunny from series 12.

Some of the attendees enjoyed coming up with their own concept and some people asked questions about how they can do it at home.

I asked everyone to sign my 20 inch Munny so that I can look back at it and remember what an awesome event it was.

I really enjoyed teaching people about a new art medium.

Thanks Korena/KidrobotSF for sponsoring this event.

  • Halo Halo in Nipa Hut Bar & Restaurant – Kissimmee, FL

Halo Halo in Nipa Hut Bar & Restaurant – Kissimmee, FL

I asked my friend, Jody Johan, if he was interested in trying the Filipino dessert, “halo halo.”

We ended up driving to Kissimmee to check out this local Filipino restaurant. The place is well known for their halo halo and other traditional Filipino dishes.

If you prefer, you can just order the dessert for $6.99 each. The portion is great for one person and the ingredients can vary widely, depending on the restaurant.

Most of the ingredients include jack fruit, beans, other sweets, and my favorite — ube ice cream.

Thanks Jody, for coming with me to check out this local spot.

  • Grand Floridian’s Garden View Tea Room – Orlando, Florida

Grand Floridian’s Garden View Tea Room – Orlando, Florida

My coworkers and I have been talking about Afternoon Tea at Grand Floridian’s Garden View Tea Room so we finally locked down a date for a reservation.

This location is a Disney venue with an airy British vibe and traditional tea, which means it’s very similar to English-style afternoon tea.

Inside, the lobby is beautiful.  It’s one of the top wedding spots in Florida.

Gigi is ready for tea time!

They also offer a princess-themed tea party.

I loved the traditional English tea set.

Wendy and Chi with their little princess, Olivia.

    I ordered the Oolong tea.

Each teapot was brought out with a cover to keep them warm.

We ordered The Bedfordshire Tea ($35.00).  The first course had a medley of finger sandwiches accompanied with berries, cheese, and lavosh; the second course came with a buttery Scone and jam tart; the finale had a selection of delicate house-made pastries, strawberries and creme, or English trifle accompanied with your choice of tea (extra charge for additional pots of tea).

As an added touch of magic for the little ones, Cinderella and her Prince Charming were in the lobby for a meet and greet.

  • Foxtail Coffee – Winter Park, FL

Foxtail Coffee – Winter Park, FL

Thanks Nat and Oscar for inviting me to a place I’ve been really wanting to try — Foxtail Coffee Co.

They have some nice outdoor seating and a place for some games and activities.

I was impressed the installation inside.  Nat told me that it used to be an old warehouse and that the owner remodeled it with an industrial vibe.  It was very busy with a lot of students hanging out.

This location has 2 different spots where you can order drink and food.

The menu selection and price, compared to Starbucks, wasn’t that bad.

We all ended up ordering matcha lattes, each with different artwork on them.  The back section is a gallery that supports local artists.

This place has a great concept, decked out with art and industrial-inspired decor.

When Andrew Zimmern tweeted about his opinion on the Orlando food scene, it made me want to support our city and local businesses. Never underestimate a place unless you’ve witnessed it yourself.  Make sure to check out Foxtail Coffee Co. for their awesome coffee and installations.

  • Lemonshark Poke – Orlando, FL

    Lemonshark Poke – Orlando, FL

Thanks to our editor, Larnna, for approaching me with this new local spot that just opened up in the Dr. Phillips area.

I’ve heard of poké before and know that it’s very popular in Hawaii and is similar to Japanese seafood don (Kaisen don).

The inside was nice and clean and similar to Subway in the way that you can order and customize your order and they prepare it in front of you.

The price and selection can be found here: https://lemonsharkpoke.com/menu/. They also have Spam Musubi!

Thank you to Larnna and her family for meeting up with me. I finally got to meet her little one. It’s always great to see friends and catch up.

Make sure you check out our vlog for this cool spot.

  • ROYALTEA – Orlando , Flordia

    ROYALTEA – Orlando , Flordia

Thanks to my editor, Larnna, for recommending that I try a new spot called, “ROYALTEA,” that recently opened up in Orlando. I took a trip with my buddy, Andy, to try it out.

The installation included the menu. I love the clean design paired with with elements of nature and wood displays and furniture. The lighting was nice and bright.

This place is busy that they gave us a pager while we waited for our drinks.

Andy and I ordered different drinks. Andy got the Mousse Milk Tea and I got the Lychee Black Mousse Tea. The cup design is so cool and allows you to drink with a straw or through a small opening so you can taste the drink mousse or cheese mousse. They recommend that you hold it at a 45 degree angle for optimal taste.

It’s a great place to enjoy tea time with your friends.
