    Domu -Orlando , Florida

Thank you to my buddy, Droolius, for inviting me to try the ramen at Domu. I’ve heard about this place from my friends.Everyone has raved about their Korean Fried Chicken so I was definitely excited about trying this new spot. A quick note, this place doesn’t take reservations so make sure you come early.

The installation mural is by local artist Boykong.

Droolius recommended ordering the WINGS6 EXTRA CRISPY WINGS COATED W/ KIMCHI BUTTER SAUCE (GLUTEN-FREE). This is most popular dish people orders. very crispy like Korean style.

Another item on their menu is the KRABBY PATTYFRIED SOFT SHELL CRAB WITH TORCHED TOMATO, MICRO GREENS, RADISH, YUZU SHICHIMI MAYO, which looked interesting to me since most traditional bao use meat as their main ingredient.

We also tried an item on the menu that had Korean BBQ corn as a base, which one of my favorites is sweet corn with cheese. The Domu version is called CHEEZUSCORN (CUT OFF THE COBB), KEWPIE MAYO, MELTED MOZZARELLA, JAPANESE SPICES, SCALLIONS, LIME (GLUTEN-FREE).

One of my friends, Emily, ordered the DOMU DONUNI WITH SPICY TUNA, IKURA, CHIVES, RADISH, NORI (GLUTEN-FREE OPTION). The rice bowl was mixed with high-end ingredients so it was a bit pricey.

There are 4 main in-house ramen bowls, each with its own specialty.

I ordered the TOKYO Ramen with SHOYU CHICKEN BROTH, FRIED CHICKEN THIGH, AJITAMA BRULEE, KIKURAGE, SEARED GARLIC CHIVES, INFUSED DUCK FAT, AND GARLIC SCALLION CONFIT. This was so good and the chicken was perfectly made.

My wife ordered the Spicy MISO (choice of butter or spicy) CHASHU, CORN, BEAN SPROUTS, SCALLIONS, KIKURAGE, AND KOMI OIL.

Droolius mentioned that his favorite is the CURRY ramen with CHICKEN BROTH, FRIED CHICKEN THIGH, JAPANESE BEECH MUSHROOMS, MENMA, THAI BASIL, SCALLIONS, THAI CHILI PASTE (MILD, MEDIUM, OR HOT).

Emily also ordered the SPICY TONKOTSU/SHIO PORK BONE BROTH, MENMA, SCALLIONS, AJITAMA, CHASHU, HOUSE MADE SPICY BOMB, KOMI OIL.
The night was awesome, the place was great, and the service was good. I will say that the wait time and pricing is a bit high, but I would recommend checking it out. http://www.domufl.com/

  • Mamak Asian Street Food – Orlando, FL

Mamak Asian Street Food – Orlando, FL

Where to go for lunch?  A pressing question, probably the most important one of the day, that usually arises as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Today’s lunch adventure landed us at Mamak Asian Street Food located on East Colonial Drive in the Mills 50 District.  This fairly new restaurant has a casual atmosphere and the decor is minimal with just enough style.  The menu offers a variety of Malaysian dishes so it was difficult to choose.

We decided to start off with the best possible drinks you can order at an Asian restaurant — Thai Iced Tea (with whipped cream of course) and Lychee.  I’m pretty particular with how I like my Thai Iced Tea to taste, a Thai Iced Tea connoisseur if you will, and I definitely have to give Mamak two thumbs up!

After going through the tasty-sounding options, we ordered the Char Kway Teow.  This dish had wok-fried rice noodles with shrimp, chicken, eggs, bean sprouts, and chives.  The portion is better suited for one person but if you and your friends are ordering a bunch of food to share, it’s enough for everyone to get their fill.

Next, we ordered the Crispy Roast Pork served with a side of hoisin sauce, which is obviously super fattening but oh so delicious while it melts in your mouth.  And if you’re anything like me, hoisin sauce tastes good with everything.  Well, maybe except cereal.

We also ordered the Asian Gwa Bao in BBQ Roast Pork.  It came with hoisin sauce, cucumber, lettuce, and scallion nestled in a fluffy white bao bun.  So soft and light, I love the way bao buns are quick and easy to eat while still looking absolutely scrumptious!

The last thing we ordered was the Roast Duck, which was also served with hoisin sauce.  I’m a huge fan of duck so I really enjoyed this tapa-sized dish.

I’m really glad we ended up at Mamak because the food was well-cooked and the service was great.  We’ll definitely be back.

  • Krungthep Tea Time – Winter Park, FL

Krungthep Tea Time – Winter Park, FL

Mai Hiro and Droolius recently went on another food adventure. Our mission was to support a local, unique spot.

My sis, Pimluck, highly recommended that I check out this place and assured me I would really enjoy it. I took her advice and met up with my bro, Julius Droolius Mayo Jr., at Krungthep Tea Time.

This new Thai fusion tea place was just opened by one of our recent Full Sail University graduates.

They offer a large variety of coffee selections and they brew their own tea and coffee.

There’s also a really cool spot where guests can take selfies and tag @krungthep_teatime.

The menu can be find on their Facebook page.

I loved their Thai Iced Tea.  I’ve tasted some Thai Iced Teas that are way too sweet but at Krungthep, it has the perfect balance of sweetness.

Julius ordered the Graprow Chicken Salad.  I’m not a huge fan of spicy food, but I really enjoyed all of the different spices they had in the salad I ordered.

You know my motto of, “sharing is caring,” so we ordered different sandwiches so that we could try each other’s sandwiches.  We ordered the Tiger is Crying and the Satay Satay.  Not only were the sandwiches delicious but the salad was super tasty and topped with Krungthep’s homemade special dressing.

For dessert, we ordered the crispy brick toast, Ka-Ti, which had coconut ice cream, condensed milk, and peanuts.

We also ordered the crispy brick toast, ChaCha, which was matcha flavored.

The Thai Ice Coffee was highly recommend by co-founder, Pemika.  I’m glad because it was the best iced coffee!

I really enjoyed the food and drinks and the service and quality was awesome!  The owners and staff at Krungthep Tea Time have really taken an original idea and fused it with a Thai style that makes this place super one-of-a-kind.

  • Bari-Uma Ramen – Jakarta , Indonesia

    Bari-Uma Ramen – Jakarta , Indonesia

This new place was recommend by my friend, Joshua. The night we went, we had a special guest join us — Indra G Masribani, founder of “ToyKultur.”This ramen place is different than any other noodle place because their belief is that in order to have a tasty bowl of ramen, it must have a super rich and thick soup. Needless to say I was very excited to try this spot.

Bari-Uma Ramen also offers a happy hour menu and a great deal on combos.

This restaurant is unique. The color chopstick you choose determines what type of ramen you get — red for pork and black for chicken.

The Chicken Gyoza was really good and different from what I’ve had before

    Karaage

Bari means, “Super” and Uma means, “Tasty.”Their signature dish, Bariuma, is a pork flavor shoyu soup with grilled, thick-cut chashu and extra Nori seaweed.

Chashu-Uma and extra topping. Ajitama and pork.

The ramen had so much flavor! Spiki and I plan to come back in 2016!

  • Aki Restaurant Happy Hour Review – Orlando, Florida

Aki Restaurant Happy Hour Review – Orlando, Florida

Aki Restaurant is one of my favorite spots since high school so as you can imagine, I’ve been to this place many, many times. Hidden in somewhat of a deserted plaza, the prices are reasonable and the restaurant itself is small with a homestyle feel. They offer a variety of dishes such as: tonkatsu, sushi, udon and friend rice, and curry. They also offer a happy hour deal so if you’re looking for a full sushi dinner, this spot will fill you up. I love starting of with a small appetizer like the Gyoza.

I highly recommend trying the “Kaisen Don.”

The happy hour menu has a variety of fresh, traditional sushi nigiri.$1 for nigiri, $2/50 per roll.

This place is warm with a friendly staff.  I’ve grown up with this place so it’s very special to me.  I have many fond memories of hanging out with friends and family over a dish of colorful sushi.  I hope you can experience it and create some memories of your own.

  • J.CO Donuts – Jakarta , Indonesia

    J.CO Donuts – Jakarta , Indonesia

I have heard so much about J.CO Donuts and that their green tea donuts are amazing! I couldn’t wait to chow down on this sweet treat.

They offer some really cool flavor selections.

The coffee is simple and includes latte art deco.

Compared to other franchises, I like this one best because they offer Asian-inspired flavors.  The quality is great and affordable.

  • Pig Floyds Urban Barbakoa – Orlando, Florida

Pig Floyds Urban Barbakoa – Orlando, Florida

I’m huge fan of BBQ so when I heard about this place from many of my friends, I knew I had to check it out. Plus, I wanted to support the owner, Thomas Ward, and taste his brand new creation. My friend, Larnna, and I went to Pig Floyds Urban Babakoa for lunch one day to see what everyone was talking about.

One of my beliefs is that the branding of a company is part of the overall experience and one of the reasons why it’s so important. Being an artist, I really pick up on the environment in addition to the the food.

    Pork Belly Taco

Oakwood Smoked Brisket, Apple Fennel Slaw, and Grilled Corn On The Cob

I really enjoyed the flavors a lot and did’t need to add any extra BBQ sauce.  This place is different and fresh, and definitely worth checking out.
